I am sorry I have not been blogging at all ! But now I am going to make a fresh start !
The past 8 months of my life have been full of many changes ! In November I took off from Wyoming Ontario and landed in Guatemala. There I spent 2 months studying spanish . It was a great time ! My cousin was there Jenny Forbes and we got to explore the town of Antigua together. It was a great time of getting used to the latin culture.
January 2009 I arrived in Jarabacoa Dominican republic ! And since then its all history :)
I now work in Palo Blanco Care center. It is a small school run by Kids Alive . It is tucked in the base of the Dominican mountains . The area around it is an agriculture community and filled with many children who come to the program .
Living here has been fun and challenging in many ways. I have never had a cold shower every day in my life haha. But have learned to handle it here ! I love my roomates Leona and Jenee and the pet dog Lola. I live in an apartment building where the walls are very thin and you can here every neighbor. My neighbors in the house next door have a small farm with goats , chickens and cows. I have to say that some mornings I could strangle those goats , they are soooo loud . All the neighbors are friendly and if you ever need a pot or some sugar they will be right there to help.

Leaving !
Hi ! Well I am leaving in 4 days YAAA! November 23 I fly out of Detroit ! I will be heading to Guatemala for 8 weeks to study spanish in Antigua ! I am so excited about this , also My cousin Jenny Forbes will be there . On Jan 16 I head to Dominican Republic , I cant WAITE !
THings have really come together well , God has really shown his power ! I appreciate all the support so many people have given to me . I will try to continue to update this !

I can’t believe that it is already September! Time is flying bye! I would like to update you on what I have been doing this past summer and how plans are coming together for Dominican Republic.
SUMMER MINISTRY WORD OF LIFE YOUTH CAMP
This summer I spent 9 weeks working at Word of Life youth Camp. This is required to graduate from the one year Bible College of Word of life. I was a Unit leader at camp, which means I was one of 2 leaders over the girl counselors. I really enjoyed this ministry opportunity and it was amazing to see how the Lord worked in so many ways. I was a discipleship counselor for 6 girls; we would meet for an hour individually each week. In our meetings we would talk about different issues that they were struggling with and come up with a plan using the word of God to help them in these areas. I also would help with looking after campers and make sure things were running smoothly. It was amazing to see so many campers come to know the Lord; we had around 150 come to the saving knowledge of Christ.
This summer stretched me in many ways, especially in trusting the Lord that He has everything under control. It also helped me develop more leadership skills and how to handle conflicts more effectively.
The Whole year that I have spent at Word of Life Bible institute has been a great blessing in my life. It has helped me prepare for future ministry in Christ and helped me come to a better understanding of the Bible.
I would like to thank everyone who stood behind me in my decision to go to Word of Life! It was definitely a decision that only God could have helped me make.
MISSIONS DOMINICAN REPUBIC
The Time is drawing near where I will be heading off for the DR! I am very excited about the ministry that lies ahead! I recently had a meeting with Kids Alive and more details of my trip were laid out. As I said in my last letter I will be teaching at Palo Blanco Care center, where I will be helping with many subjects like Bible, English, and Music ext. I will be with the kids all day so I will have many opportunities to speak to them about the Lord. I will also be taking Spanish well I am there, that is a prayer request that the Lord will help me to learn it quickly!

I am very excited to serve God in the Dominican Republic! It has been incredible to watch Him lead me to this point in life. Children are a blessing from Him and deserve to hear about Jesus Christ. I am looking forward to seeing how God will work everything together! Thank you so much for your support in this opportunity to serve the Lord in Dominican Republic.
Please pray that the Lord will send the financial support that I need. Also pray that everything will come together so that I can depart for the DR in November.

Wow End of AUGUST already !
Hey all ! I cant believe that its the end of summer already ! I have had a great summer working at Word of life Youth camp . IT was so cool to work with so many kids and see so many of them come to know Christ as there savior !
I am getting really pumped to go to Dominican Republic ! I am now in the phase where I really need to see more support start to come in ! IF you would like to donate please let me know !

Everyone dreams of going on a vacation in the Caribbean,
with its beautiful white beaches and resorts. But behind
this mask of richness lays a world of poverty and sadness. In
the Dominican Republic there is “260,000 orphans” according
to Childinfo.org and Unicef. 33,000 are orphaned due to parents dying of the AIDS epidemic. People living below the poverty line are 25%. There is a great need in this country for the love of Christ, and people willing to reach out to these children.
Kids Alive -The Dominican Republic is one of Kids Alive's most extensive field operations. Currently there are eleven sites and because of the caliber of staff and the quality of service, Kids Alive experiences continuous growth. In 2003, the number of children in residential care grew by 48%, and the number of children in non-residential care grew by 25%. Currently 746 children and young adults are cared for by 10 missionaries, 10 national ministry directors and various support personnel.
ME- I will be leaving to work with Kids alive DR for 2 years in November 2008. As of right now I will be helping at the Palo Blanco Care Centre. This is a Christian school run by Kids Alive. They have about 170 students all in grades 3-6. I will be helping with teaching English, computer skills, communications and music. As the time gets closer to my departure, I will know more of what I will be doing. Palo Blanco is in the central highlands, a small impoverished agricultural community where jobs are not plentiful. The ministry has recently moved to newly constructed facilities allowing a 75% growth in the number of children in the program. These facilities will continue to expand in the coming years from 3 to 6 classrooms as the ministry grows.
The Program- A pre-school head-start program is held in the morning, which helps to prepare the children for entering public school. The Director makes home visits to evaluate which children would best benefit from the program. The structure of the pre-school brings a degree of stability into the lives of the children, teaching them basic skills. The following year, the children go to kindergarten in the public school.
The children come to the center from public school at noon for a healthy lunch. They stay until three-thirty in the afternoon for educational enrichment emphasizing phonics, reading, language, Bible class, crafts and other activities. The children will continue in this way throughout the school year. As they go to the next grade, they will spend a little less time in the Center, adding an English class along with tutoring and helping those struggling in school with their homework. We will continue to provide the required public school uniform as many of them cannot afford to purchase them.
We also help with some medical expenses and open up our doors to the community when medical teams visit.
Relationships with the families help them see the importance of a good education. The goal is to teach some parenting skills, build healthier homes, and share Christ with them.
FUTURE
Plans include a weekly Bible club, food and clothing distribution, family/community fun nights, evangelistic outreach films, and medical and service teams to replace inadequate housing for families of the Care Center.
