Hello all my friends and Supporters! I pray that these last few months have been a blessing to you.

Since my last news letter we have finished the school year! It was a great year with many joys and trials. The last day of school was spent celebrating and having Fiestas [parties] in the classrooms. Praise the Lord that our American Director of Palo Blanco has returned! Jan Burkey is back and in good health. Thank you for all of your prayers. Jan is very happy to be back and is in good spirits.

I returned on June 14th from a 2 week trip home. It was a nice time of reconnecting with many of you and seeing family. I was able to be with 2 of my siblings as they graduated from 8th and 12th grade and also see one of my brothers be baptized. It was an encouraging and refreshing time that I thank the Lord for.

I have 6 months left of my 2 year commitment here in the Dominican Republic. I will be returning to Canada in December 2010. As of now my plan is to attend Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario to study Social Work. My time here in the DR has strengthened my desire to reach kids who are in difficult situations. The Lord has shown me how much need there is at home and abroad for Christians to reach children in bad situations, with the Love of Christ.

For the next month and a half we are running summer program here. Summer program is a lot like summer school. This year we are teaching about Europe! The kids will be studying art, geography, math, science, Bible and music. We have 16 interns from North American University’s that will be helping us teach this summer. I will be spending time with the interns through bible studies and weekend outings. I will be teaching music at Palo Blanco this summer and also helping my director Jan Burkey in various areas. I pray that the Lord will teach me many new things this summer.

4 weeks of school left !

Yes there are only 4 weeks of school left ! Crazy!!! I want to let you all know that I will be in canada from May 28th until June 14th . I am looking forward to seeing you all again !

Right now all of the Kids alive sites are busy doing there Progress Reports ! Progress Reports are "reports" on each child in the program. They explain how the kids are doing Physically, Mentally,Spiritually and academically. This is a huge project as just in Palo Blanco alone there are 220 kids. Please pray that we will all be able to finish them before the end of June !

Another Update: Currently there are some significant problems with our mail system. The Dominican Republic has issued a new "Law" about out going and incoming mail. It is looking like we will have to pay taxes on everything coming in. Also possibly have to go down to Santo Domingo every 2 weeks to get our paper work in order. As of right now different people are trying to fix this problem. Pray that it can be fixed quickly !

My continued life here in the DR

Again it has been way to long :(

It has been 17 months since I left for the Domincan Republic in November 2008 ! Today I am reflecting at how fast time can go. It really does feel like it was just yesterday that I left Wyoming Ontario in the frezzing cold for the nice warmth of the Caribbean. God has been teaching my many new things in my life and opening my eyes to a whole new world and culture. Now after being here for 17 months I feel like this is normal life . Praise the Lord for this because at the beginning of my journey I didnt think I would EVER feel normal here. My Spanish is still a work in progress but I can now understand at least what the kids are saying to me at school :) But please don't ask me to translate a sermon LOL.

I have made many good friends here . I have 2 roomates Julie-Anne and Katie , It has been great getting to know them and making many memories together. I have accually had 6 different roomates during the past year , and have learned valuble lessons from each one of them. We have all come from different places and cultures to serve the people here . It is so neat to be able to meet so many people !

Lately I have been teaching English and Piano lessons to the kids at school . It warms my heart to see how excited the kids are to learn Piano ! I started with one kid and now have 13 students with many more wanting lessons. Its exciting to teach kids when they are excited to learn. Most of the kids enjoy English but not all of them :) Although for some reason they enjoy it when I give them exams !? My grade 5 class is always asking me when they can have another exam haha.

One thing I really enjoy is my motorcycle drive to school . God has blessed me with the most beutiful drive ever ! Palo Blanco care center is at the base of the mountains. It is always so lush and green a feast for the eyes ! Its the most peaceful view especially when you add in a few cows and horses eating along side the road.

I recently got my Motorcyle fixed up ! My friends husband [ who is Dominican] took it in to get checked. As the guy was checking it out he asked my friends husband if it was a "women" who was driving it , as there was hardly any oil , no shocks left and very poor breaks . I had to laugh at this ! 60 dollors later and it is like driving a brand new motorcycle ! Amazing how nice it is when you have breaks LOL.

So I there is only 5 more weeks of school left ! Again time flys ! I will be heading home on May 28th untill June 14th . When I return we will be starting summer program ! We have about 15 interns this summer who will be flying in with me on the 14th of June . Our summer program is for 6 weeks and is alot like summer school. I am looking forward to a great summer and time being home with everyone !
